Bio
Dr. Matthew Speyer was born in Baltimore, MD. He attended the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He finished with honors as a member of the AOA Medical Honor Society in 1991. He then completed a 6-year otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency at Vanderbilt University, received a top research award for his work and published several scientific and clinical papers. He remained on faculty at Vanderbilt and taught Otolaryngology residents as an assistant professor for two years.
Dr. Speyer then opened his Nashville-based private practice in 2000. While in private practice, he served as president of the Nashville Chapter of the Yul Brynner Head and Neck Cancer Society, president of the Nashville Academy of Otolaryngology, and President of the Medical Staff at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.
Dr. Speyer now serves as Chief of Otolaryngology-Head and neck Surgery at St. Thomas Hospital, volunteers as instructor to surgical residents and medical students, serves as Rhinology-Skull base consultant for St. Thomas West Neurosurgery Unity Program, and serves on the Executive Board of St. Thomas Surgicare as Physician Champion.
When not working, Dr. Speyer mostly enjoys time with his immediate and extended family, backpacking and hiking throughout the United States, riding his bike, and loving on his dogs.
